(1937-2004) A member of the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America, Ray
Swanson was one of America’s most distinguished and collected artists.
During a career that spanned more than forty years, he was honored with
numerous awards and accolades. While best known for his Native American
themes, his many trips abroad allowed him to observe and paint people and
cultures from around the world. Regardless of the subject matter, his
watercolors and oils serve as a human documentary, a visual journey filled
with dramatic light and jewel- like colors through which he conveyed a deep
spiritual interpretation of ordinary lives.
